Tom was back in action in Wales for the 3rd round of the Iame British Cadet Championship at the weekend.  It was cloudy and wet for most of the weekend at the Glan Y Gors circuit.

Tom was in great form and saw him qualify a brilliant 2nd overall.

In heat one, Tom got a great standing start and was lying second on the first lap. After taking the lead on the second lap, this was where he stayed to take the win having dominated the race.

In heat two, another great start off the line for Tom. He led the race for three laps, then  the  chasing pack caught  and passed him. With a group of karts battling for the lead, Tom took his turn, and after a brilliant manoeuvre, he led the field on the last lap. On the last corner, contact from another driver meant Tom was knocked down to take second over the line.

Tom lined up on the grid in Pole position for Final One. Another great start from Tom, saw him going into the lead and holding his position for the first few laps. At one point contact from another driver lost him time, but he recovered well, and was in the middle of the action in the lead group. On the last lap,Tom was unable to make a move on the leaders, as contact from behind lost him momentum, but he still finished a solid sixth place.

In Final Two, on a wet track, Tom got a good start and was in the lead group on the first lap. It was a long hard battle throughout the 15 minute race, with 9 drivers switching positions trying to get to the front. Tom was working his way up the order and on the last lap looked really strong. Lying 2nd with a couple of corners before the finish line, two drivers came through and Tom found himself on the grass and “very disappointed,” he came over the line in 11th.  Although not the result he deserved, Tom got the fastest lap of the race, and remains very positive.

Tom said after the race “The kart was brilliant, and I had some great results in the heats. I ended up on the grass in the final, which  lost me valuable points in the Championship. I’m remaining positive as there are still 3 rounds left, and I have a good team and fantastic support from Zip Kart.”
