Tom competed in round 2 of the Super One British Championship at Rowrah at the weekend.
Saturday was fine and dry. Tom qualified 3rd in his group to start P4 in his heats.
A new ‘standing’ start was introduced at the weekend, instead of the usual ‘rolling’ start.
In his first heat, Tom made a great start and got into 2nd on the first lap of the 10 min race. He pulled a gap on the chasing pack, but was caught and the lead changed between 4 drivers with Tom taking the lead. In the latter stages Tom couldn’t hold his position and was in 4th going into the last corner .Unfortunately,an incident with another driver, caused Tom to spin and he finished down the order in 13th.
In heat 2, Tom didn’t get the best of starts, but held 4th. He closed the gap to 3rd .On the last lap, the two karts in front collided and Tom had to take avoiding action, but came through to take the win.
Sunday was very wet.
In Final 1, Tom had his work cut out starting P9 on the grid. After a fantastic start, Tom passed a number of karts and going into the third corner he was in 3rd, but a driver came off the grass onto the track, and Tom had to avoid him and dropped to 4th. In the closing stages Tom caught and passed the leaders with an outstanding maneouvre on the last lap to take the win.
In Final 2, Tom started Pole. After a great get away off the line, he pulled a gap together with his two team mates.
After an exciting 15min race Tom and his team mates battled for the lead, but after a near spin, Tom lost second place and had to settle for 3rd, unable to close the gap. Still a brilliant result!
After the race Tom commented ” I was disappointed not to take the win, but really happy with the points I gained in the Championship. The kart felt really good in both the dry/ wet conditions- thanks to Zip. Dad, Dan Hart and James did a great job of kart set up. I’d also like to thank John Davies from Force Motorsport for my top engines and all my sponsors.”
